POLL: Should National Football Associations compensate clubs if there was any injury obtained by a player?
thats just crazy that would just bring up more debt to clubs . The last thing they want is financial conditions on injuries. Let it be, plzz.|||No. If they have a problem with it, they should not have internationals on their team.
When are soccer fans outside the United States going to get their history straight?
It is well documented that our version of football was established before soccer was ever played. Your ancestral barbarians were probably still kicking goat heads around any patch of grass that could be found. Back then, our rules allowed for more kicking of the ball than it is now, hence, the name "football" was attached. Some years later after soccer was being established, an Englishman who enjoyed association football decided to call it "soccer" so as to avoid confusion. It's a term which is marketed by YOUR companies, in YOUR countries, by YOUR teams, with YOUR money that is earned at YOUR games. We don't have it confused. I'm afraid it's you so called connoisseurs who have had it wrong for a great long time.
And by the way, I happen to enjoy football and soccer no matter where they are played. You might benefit from a little open-mindedness.|||I erased what I originally had because it appears I misinterpreted the question.
After reading your question once more, to me, it does not matter when each sport was "discovered". All I care about is what's going on now. I have nothing against football, my whole family loves football, my brothers played HS football...I just like soccer/fooball better.|||I like both footballs, I really don't care for the name. You can call it baseball for all i care. You are just trying to pick a fight.|||your wrong football (or soccer to you yanks) was invented before before america was even discovered.|||you are an idiot.|||LOL Just like YOUR history teaches you that Edison invented all those things not Tesla.........|||Avigla is right!!!! The game of soccer started in the early 1300's in Asia. Way before any sport was on the map and maybe they did start with a goats head. Get rid of the political garbage and face the fact that Football makes more since when your watching a game of Soccer. This is just fact. Just because the American football game has evolved more to a hands on game before kicking doesn't mean that it makes more since. English, Spanish, and well the rest of the world will continue to use football as the primary name for the sport of soccer. That is just fact. So when the people decide something in my country that would be something of a democracy. The people in vast majorities will always prevail when any subject is brought to light.
Soccer is better left as football! Football U.S. will be in its own little corner of the world while the rest of the world will enjoy the real game of football (SOCCER).

I was just watching the last 12 min of the game, and yet again they pull away with late heroics.
I'm not really a fan of association football, but this years world cup is very exciting.|||I'm really proud of our team this year. Despite the questionable calls that have robbed us of victories and valuable points we still won our group. Now it gets tougher. With powerhouses like Brazil, Argentina, Portugal and Mexico looming in the next rounds we can't get caught up in this small but huge victory. We need to step it up, increase our intensity and lay it on the line. I'm not a regular soccer fan either but lately I've really been getting into the World Cup these past few years. I wish I could have gone to South Africa this year to be part of the spectacle and prestige of the event. Someday I will go in my lifetime. Hopefully I can go when the World Cup is hosted by a Caribbean nation or South American nation. If not then the next time it comes back to the US I will catch a few matches live.|||LIKE THIS IS WHITE PEOPLE, AMERICA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VI0gnh7Ch…|||COME ON ENGLAND!! I was really hoping the french would do well, but with an idiot coach I guess it just wasn't possible..|||Yes, it has been doing well.|||i really felt other countries in the world were so much better then USA at football (soccer) since where known for American Football.

What is the difference between the soccer leagues in a country and in the world?
I know that FIFA is the main governing body for association football and the biggest tournie is the world cup, but what is the difference between say a country's national team-like Brazil's and then all the Brazilian leagues like Flamengo, Murici, Corinthians, etc..Is there a hierarchy? Do the smaller football clubs only play each other, and then the best players go on to represent a country on the national team to only play against other countries?|||FIFA is the governing body and it consists of 6 confederations AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA. These confederations consist of individual football associations looking after individual counties (FAs) like Brazilian Foootball Associations. Each country has its own domestic league and cup competitions run solely by the individual FA like the premier League or La Liga. The national team consists of all players that the national team coach has called up to play for the national team (a player can reject the call up). They play for their respective clubs but not necessarily in the country that they represent on the international level. For example Messi plays for Barcelona (Spain) but represents Argentina on the international level.

New zealand and australian football leagues?
are both the NZFC and A-League on the verge of collapsing after this season?, the NZFC has no sponsors and the clubs did sign up for one more year but what happens after the next season?, and Australia's clubs are being taken over the the Football Association, anyone know if these could be it for both leagues?|||The A-league won't collapse after this season as Australian Football must have this competition to please Fifa.
Can i claim for damage to property or cars by kids playing football?
I live in a cul-de sac in a housing association flat There is often kids and teenagers playing football even though there are signs up saying no ball games! If they cause dammage to my propertey or cars am i in a legal position to claim against their parents if they are under a certain age or against them if they are classed as legaly responsible for themselves also if the damage is caused by their friends can i hold them responsible as the tennancy agreement states that they are responsible for visitors to their propertey. if so how do i make a claim and what are the ages i can claim against do i go to my housing association? solicitor ? police ? Citezenz advice?|||to be honest the best bet instead of causing more problems is GO to the parents don't be quick to sue , if the parents want to be jerks then call the police tell the police you kindly went and spoke to them first so to avoid sueing them and then the police will make out a report and then you give it to your insurance company then they may go after the parents of the children..you want whats best for you and your neighbors..so start with a kind talking to|||I believe you could make a legit complaint. I would suggest contacting an attorney and also, contact your housing association. If it says in the rules that they are responsible...then bottom line...they are responsible. No brain surgery there. I would be contacting all proper people asap|||Yes, You can hold them responsible. If they are minors, then their parents will pay for the damage they cause. They have to stay off your property, but do have the right to play in the street. However, if they damage your car, or property from the street, they are responsible. Make sure you take pictures, and document your case.|||Of course you could make a claim. It may be classified as non criminal damage. Report it to your housing association. If necessary, make out a Police report, and notify your insurance company.|||as there are signs up against people playing football etc then you are in your right to claim against damage there are also fines for the culprits who ignore these warnings we have the same were we live .1st you have to report it to the people whom put the signs up then they will let you know who to report the damage to if you have any .|||Best available citizens advice? Get to know your neighbors on a personal level, rather than preparing to sue them for damages that haven't happened yet. Kids will play- it doesn't matter how unchild-friendly the homeowners association has made itself. But, by getting to know the kids, they're likely to have more respect for you and your property. Plus, you might get some new friends out of the deal. It's easy to do, just bake a tray of cookies, and knock on doors. Everyone likes to meet their neighbors. Unnecessary litigation just causes hostility on the street where you live.|||go and have a word with the parents first, see how you get on, if no joy then report it to your local police and council, keep dates and times of everything, they go to cab office and they will help you from start to finish, they are great, hope that helps, all the best.|||Having read the replies to you first, I would agree that you can report them or their parents. Having suffered verbal abuse and threats from a neighbour simply because I gave a child a telling off for helping to wreck my garden in the name of the word "playing", I followed this up, especially as adults also became involved. You can try being nice to neighbours but it doesn't work sometimes. Complain to the Council in the first instance. Get someone as a witness and also take photos of the damage and try to catch them doing it on camera. It all helps|||yes you can claim but it might be difficult to prove|||Yes, you have rights against both them and their parents as well as the landlord.Take your written tenant agreement and go talk to a lawyer to get the details for your state.|||contact brian damage, then give them a kicking

What is the best idea for a Backyard football scoreboard?
My friends and I are making a huge football field and we are getting serious! We are getting bleachers, Flood lights, Concession stands, tickets, and much more. All the money we receive from the concession stands and tickets will go to the ADA (American Diabetes Association) because one of my friends is diabetic. We need some ideas for good scoreboard ideas. The cheapest, smallest scoreboard I found is too much to pay for, so any Ideas???|||just use a whiteboard its cheap and easy to erase|||By two big pads of paper, number every page up from 1 to 100. Then get cardboard in the shape of a trianglular prism (u may have to make that). Then you could put the scroll on top of the cardboard so u can flip it so the score will move forward. U could simply right Home and Away where the pads are goign to be 2. Good luck.|||Wood and paint. Make it oldschool like the scoreboard on the Green Monster in Fenway.
Cheap and nostalgic. Just need another kid to take care of it during the game.

Is it allowed for the president of a country's football to control the organization form the jail ?
Do you know that All Indonesian Footbal Association's president , Nurdin Halid is jailed for the second times because corruption ? He is jailed for 2 years. But weirdly he dosen't dismissed . I, as an Indonesia si very shy because this news. 2 weeks ago , the All Indonesia Football Associaiton makes a meeting in the jail . This makes me shame . Nurdin Halid doesn't bring any goods for Indonesia's football in 10 years. Is this allowed by FIFA and AFC ?|||maaf ya gw jawab pake bahasa indo.
Sebenernya tdk diperbolehkan oleh FIFA dan Indonesia terancam dihukum.
Hukuman paling berat= Persepakbolaan Indo dibekukan, TIMNAS tidak bisa mengikuti perlombaan internasional seperti kualifikasi Piala Dunia, dll. hal ini tentu juga mencoreng muka persepakbolaan Indonesia setelah sukses menggelar Asian Cup 2007.|||yeah.|||SEEING INDONESIA IS ALLOWING IT, I SUPPOSE THE ANSWER IS A SIMPLE YES.

Why is football called soccer?
i checked that it was Charles Wreford Brown invented the term "soccer" but anyone here knows why he did that?
i hate it when americans value "american football" more than "association football" and call it "soccer" while other countries call it "football"

Stupid, but whatever.|||Probablly because foot ball was already taken be a sport that had nothing to do with feet.|||We like to come up with different things here in America. Are the majority of student athletes in football and basketball criminals?
It is being contended by a family member that the majority of student ahletes, mainly speaking of basketball and football men, are criminals. I believe this to not be true but can't find any stats. Does anyone have stats on what % of athletes get in trouble with the law? I find it difficult because many DO get out of trouble because of their association with sports.|||Well I'm 16 and I play both football and basketball and none of the guys on either team are considered crimanals
What is the association between Newcastle and the Mark Knopfler song 'Going Home'?
I know Newcastle United Football Club play this at their games, but why? What is the association with the city?|||Actually, it appears that there's not that great a link between Newcastle and the song.
For one thing, Mark ISN'T a true Geordie, he's actually Glaswegian by birth (though his mother was a Geordie, his father was a Hungarian Jew) and only moved to Newcastle aged 9, while the tune comes from the film 'Local Hero' - shot entirely in Scotland.
You could say it's because he's concidered a Tooner, but I think it's more likely to be that they.... like the tune!|||The song is called local hero and mark knopfler is a Geordie|||He is from Newcastle.

Are those outside of the US bothered that we Americans say Soccer to ref to Football?
I am American, but was born in the UK, and grew up loving both Association Football, and American Football.... I often wonder what the rest of the world thinks about us referring to our game as Football, and not distinguishing it as American Football, the way that Rugby and Aussie Rules fans do..... If you are anywhere outside of the US/Canada and you say Football, everyone will assume you are referring to Association Football. In the U.S. of course we are backwards. We refer to Association Football as Soccer, but I doubt many of us even realize that the word "Soccer" is derived from "Association." As a fan of both games, I am often embarrassed by our ignorance...|||I like both games, I just don't understand why you insist on calling it Football when the idea of the game is to throw or run the ball into the end zone. Lets face it the only time you really use your feet is when you fail to score a touchdown (apart from the extra point!) At least in our game the idea is to use your feet! My main beef with the Americans that answer questions on here is the fact that they are so ignorant/arrogant that they expect us to bow down and change what we call our game...even though association football was invented first!|||Yeah, it drives me nuts.
I talk about how I loved how good-looking footballers were, and not friend would comment how she didn't like how big and bulky they were. I understand they don't call it football because it would confuse it with American Football, but why is American Football even called Football? It has little do with the foot.
The lack of u's also confuses me.|||its not really bothering, its just confusing. Just know when and where you can say football refering to American football or soccer.!!|||Yeah its just wrong. Football is the most popular sport in the world but still the americans refer to it as a diffrent word. Its arrogance and ignorant|||Shanahan, excuse me, but arrogance lies in presuming to tell another culture to change their traditions to suit your own. Ignorance lies in the fact that it was an Englishman who coined the word "soccer," in the first place.
The word "soccer" originated as an "Oxford '-er'" slang abbreviation of "association", and was popularised by a prominent English footballer, Charles Wreford-Brown.|||I personally find it a bit annoying
the word 'soccer' sounds gay
The game is football because you use your 'foot'
you dont do a lot of that in American 'football' (apart from the kicker).
Its like me refering to American football as 'gridiron'.
"hey did you see the gridiron game the other day...."
youd find that equally as dumb|||i really don't mind except when they get confusing but other than that people could call there sport whatever they want and i really dont care if soccer is foot ball or football is called handball
the thing i love is the sport itslef and i don't mind the name, its like if you love your mom unconditionall even if her name was vagina or something like that.|||Everyone's free to call it what they want.|||i think is dumb that Americans call it soccer and Americans football u don't use yoUr foot. i heard that if ur in the U.K and u say Soccer they get mad at u or beat u you up.

To all football fans out there.Any chance of a replay? What do you think?
The Football Association of Ireland have lodged a formal complaint with FIFA over the controversial world cup play-off defeat to France and urged the governing body to replay the match.|||Definitely not; Uzbekistan-Bahrein in 2005 was repeated because of a technical error (a player got into the box before a penalty was shot, the ref noticed and instead of repeating the penalty, a free kick was called; which is a technical mistake). Football (soccer) matches are replayed only when there are determinant technical errors (calling a free kick instead of a penalty repetition is a determinant technical error), but not when there are appreciation errors (the ref could say he didn't consider the handball to be a handball, even if it sounds stupid; but I think FIFA is right about it, because if they didn't do it this way, every single game would have to be replayed and refs wouldn't have any authority any more.|||NO CHANCE whatsoever.
And probably rightly so - we can't replay matches. It would be a can of worms worse than Pandora's Box.
What we SHOULD do, of course, is insist VT-recordings and other technologies are introduced asap - despite the Blatter and Platini objections.
The obdurate Blatter, never far away from shady dealings, fixes and the smell of corruption should be ousted - whatever it takes.
With New Zealand in the last 32 - Russia omitted - and France through on foul play - I reckon Blatter's days are numbered. The 2010 WC is shaping up to be a farce - but in the ill-chosen location of S.Africa I think it will be a tragedy.|||Nah mate... Platini is just out to make sure his frenchies get in, and make the world cup "better"
First he cheated us with that scrote ovrebo, now this...
Another scandinavian referee, anyone see the pattern? One from Norway and one from Sweden....
I sympathise with Irish fans, I went through the same thing after the Barcelona game.... this is wat u get from a corrupt French guy..... he should go back to eating frogs legs (no offence french people, that was directed at him, not you or your culture)|||Highly unlikely , such a replay has happened in the past,(Uzbek and Kuwait if memory serves) but not in a game this high profile...Sepp Blatter would take a massive hit if he allowed a replay and there would be hell to pay if the Irish went ahead and actually won such a game|||I highly doubt it , if they do they will never hear the end of it as there are so many bad calls that go on all the time.
it will be a very dangerous precedent to set.|||There is absolutely no way for a replay. Zilch. Nada. France knocked out Ireland due to a blind referee just as Chelsea was denied victory over Barca in last season's CL.|||Then England will ask for a replay of the 86 hand of God and Germany will ask for replay of the 66 final.. things will get messy|||It'll be very unlikely.|||It seems unlikely. I think that's just the game.|||It was a refereeing mistake....if we replayed all these games we'd never be done with replays

Is it Soccer or Football? why do americans love to change words?
CLEARLY it is football, association football to begin with. you play with your feet that's why it is called football|||Football is Foot Ball , its not really open for discussion. Why the USA changed it is a mystery, one I couldnt care less about. American football is so primitive and boring, bunch of ogres wrestling around|||Football, Soccer, Calcio, Futbol, Fussball, etc.
All are technically right. Its the same sport, different name depending on which language you speak.
However the sport was created in England and Association Football is most commonly recognised as 'Football' by the majority of people worldwide. The English language name of the sport is pretty self explanatory and describes the game which tests your skill with your 'feet' and a 'ball'. It is the worlds game, the most played, most watched sport in existence. The largest sporting organisation on the planet, FIFA, stands for Federation Internationale de Football Association.|||The answer is in your question.
"association football"
Soccer is a shortened term for association football, from the soc in association. Just like back in the day association rugby was sometimes referred to as ruggers.
Football has been called football in the U.S. since the 1840's. It stemmed from the game, which was looked at as a combination of rugby and soccer, but both at the time were called "football" mainly by college students who had either grown up or had been educated in England. Another belief is that it was also called football since at the time, many popular sports in the U.S. were played on horseback, and you called it football, as you played on your feet, rather than on the back of a horse.|||football originated in england, hence the FA (Football association), FIFA etc, not a 'S' in the acronyms at all, American Football is American Football and is a combination of rugby and football, with a few 'americanisms' chucked in! Soccer was actually started by rugby players (before the America civil war) to insult the football players because 'Rubgy football' was deemed to be more upperclass than Football, therefore they riddiculed it and labelled it soccer.|||Well, it was called football because people who didn't like the no hands rule in soccer/football, broke off and created rugby. Then in America, the rules were modified further and originally, would not allow a forward pass, only a side pass if two players were side by side. This might break it down further. And because soccer was not nearly as popular in the States, it was called, well, soccer instead of football. And Americans just do what they want. I know, I live here. But check out this answer, it's pretty good.|||It's soccer. Football is Gaeilic. It really depends on where you live - in these countries the following sports are considered "football":
Ireland: Gaeilic
America: American Football
Scotland: Soccer
Wales: Soccer
Australia: Aussie Rules
England: Soccer

Why is it such a big deal that the U.S. calls football soccer?
The name association football was coined to distinguish the game from the other forms of football played at the time, specifically rugby football. The term soccer originated in England, first appearing in the 1880s as a slang abbreviation of the word "association", often credited to former England captain Charles Wreford-Brown.|||People from all over the world use different words all the time. It just seems that some people can't grow up and accept this fact in regards to "football" being called "soccer".
This argument is really old, people need to drop this middle school drama and GROW UP!!!!!
USA is not the only country that refers to "football" as "soccer". Several of countries do! Why is it that USA is the only country called out on it?
Check this site out! Most countries even refer to the sport as "soccer" from time to time!|||i personally have no problem with people calling soccer different names but then a gain i'm a little bias since i do live in the US|||the US already has a football an it is more popular in the US then soccer if they were to change the names to make them right (I think they should since you don't play american football with your feet) it would cause another civil war in America|||i really don't care. It's just like how Americans say fanny for the backside, and Brits say fanny for the vagina.|||I think the problem is that Americans think that the sports name is soccer. It's not, it's called football. Maybe the American game should be called by its slang name (gridiron). Let's face it soccer is only a term used for the sport in the colonies. The WORLD knows the game as FOOTBALL.|||There have been over more recent years a push to use the common name to establish a uniformity of names. One example is Australia, as part of Oceania the head body was Soccer Australia. As part of a restructure and moving into the Asian Confederation they were not forced but it was a polite request that Soccer be dropped, thus the head body is now FFA (Football Federation Australia).
FIFA would prefer that Football become the world wide reference but it is not anything that officially concerns anyone except maybe a few in the marketing department.
It does seem to raise the ire of a few fans in some traditional countries that play the sport but I will never understand why.

Do you think the Irish Football association (NI) have any right to complain?
http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2010/0301鈥?/a>
The IFA up north have started to complain about Northern born players opting to play for the Republic ahead of Northern Ireland. They say it puts them at a disadvantage but who are they to dictate what nationality a person sees themselves as and what choice they make?
Current rules say that anyone born on the Island of Ireland can play for the Republic , because if someone up north considers themselves 100% Irish then they probably would not feel comfortable playing for a British entity , so have the IFA a right to dictate to players who they should play for or should the players allowed to do what they want?
With this complaint do you think they have a leg to stand on?
I don't want to get too political but isn't this case they're putting stamp all over a particular agreement made in the Good Friday Agreement about national identity?|||Stop! There is enough politics in football as it is! :)
Players will tend to go where the money is! I guess that says it all. If all the best Irish players are in the South then they stand a better chance of winning too. The only thing better than money is winning...
It seems the athletes identify with being Irish, as opposed to being a political captive of the North or South of Ireland? I do not pretend to know the grievances of both sides. But, it actually sounds like it might be a very positive trend for all of Ireland itself!|||They're just mad that the Republic are ten times better than them, hence the good players born in NI would rather play for a team that has a chance at winning a game against the Top 10 Nations in the world.

It is now widely acknowledged by both sides of “the divide” in the North that Windsor Park (Home ground for Northern Ireland) was a “cold house” for Catholics for many years. The chants sung at matches were intimating for those from a Catholic/Nationalist background and in many cases were sectarian in nature.
Martin O’Neill (currently Aston Villa manager) played for Northern Ireland and was booed by his own “supporters” when he captained the side – this because he was a Catholic. More recently Neil Lennon was similarly booed by his own fans because he was Catholic and played for Celtic FC. Neil Lennon had to retire from the team because he subsequently received Loyalist death threats.
It was even judged unsafe for Derry City to play in the IFA home leagues (which is why they play in the ROI ones)
I appreciate that these issues were not condoned by the IFA in any way - but they were far to slow to remedy this. They should have acted sooner by welcoming and encouraging support from all communities in the North. They failed to this.
Basically everyone I went to school with (and I went to school in “Northern Ireland”) support the Republic of Ireland over Northern Ireland any day. I do have mates who are Northern Ireland supporters but we come from different “backgrounds” – they went to different schools if you get my drift.
Ireland lets face it has very unique problems and while I appreciate the IFA is not acting out of political motives the implications are very political. I don’t think its for the IFA to start trying to rubber stamp everyone born in the North as eligible to only play for Northern Ireland - and as such be forced to stand for God Save the Queen every time they want to play international footy.
One particular case that made the headlines was a lad from Derry city who played for Derry City in the ROI leagues. Then he gets called up for ROI – A portion of northern politicians move in and say “No! He should only be allowed to play for NI!” (Eh???)
Though I appreciate a lot has been did in more recent years to make the grounds less sectarian, the IFA have acted to late for many us. I also appreciate the IFA put investiture in players that they can subsequently lose but its out of their control. Period.
Lets face it the rules work both ways i.e. players in ROI if they want could choose to play for NI instead!
“That is very unlikely to happen!” I hear the IFA shout - at which point they should take a good hard look at themselves and ask “Why is it unlikely to happen?”
And that’s when they'll realise they only have themselves to blame.|||The Northern Ireland team is made up mostly of Protestants/Loyalists. Any Catholic who plays for Northern Ireland usually ends up being taunted by his own supporters, this happened to Neil Lennon. This tells you how bigoted that place still is. You can't blame any Catholic footballer from Northern Ireland who declares for the Republic if that's the way they're treated up there.
Another thing, Northern Ireland have a shyte team at the moment as well.|||NI wants it restricted to the grand parents rule so that only palyers with a grand parent or parent for example born in the republic could then declare for the Republic.
I think their position is fare enough, if these guys wanted to play for the Republic they should do so at an early age and not wait till just before they are about to be capped by NI to swap to the Republic. Lots of players swap to the Republic and swap back again when they cant get into the senior squad. Its a bit of a joke really|||its understandable that they are bothered by this. they have a small pond to fish from as it is. imagine if you were the president of the tibetan football association and tibetan born players wanted to play for china.
EDIT: well its about honor. the irish should have a team that isnt a part of the UK|||If they aren't comfortable playing for NI, then they are more than welcome to play for the Republic. I don't think the rules need to be changed.
Let's be honest, the football in NI is very poor. Two of their best teams both lost 3-0 to Dublin teams last weekend.|||Anyone from the north or anywhere else on the island of ireland are entitled to play with the republic if they choose. I think we should merge both teams into one like it is in rugby.|||I agree with what Podge %26amp; Rodge has said %26amp; yourself.....why would a Catholic Irish person choose to play for mainly a Protestant NI side if they have the choice ....

What is the International Football Association Board? Isn't it FIFA who makes the rules?
The rules are made by the Football associations of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, who have one vote each, and the International Football Association Board, which represent the other countries, holding 4 votes. A rule change must get 6 votes to be passed.

I want to ask some more main and brief info about this year's world cup. Any common infos that you all know about this year's world cup.Example .. explain to me where this year's world cup would be held, what teams are participated, when is the world cup.. from when to when, why is it called world up? .. Has there ever been an approach to unite the four Britsh football associations?
And what do people think of it?|||Not to my knowledge. Each of the nations in the UK have their own identity and culture which they do not wish to see compromised. So the majority of the UK would oppose it.
There will be a Great Britain team in the 2012 Olympics, but all of the players will be English. The reason for this is because Sepp Blatter has pushed for a unified UK team to compete in international football, and the football associations in the UK did not want the Olympics to provide a precedent that Blatter could use to push it further.
Blatter is of the opinion that the UK is represented by four teams, but it doesn't work like that. If Scotland was to win the World Cup, then it would mean nothing to any of the other nations in the UK.
I can see the merit of a UK team in the sense that it would have meant that players like Ryan Giggs and George Best would have played in World Cups, but supporters wouldn't get behind a UK football team like they do their home nation.
But it does happen in other sports. In Rugby Union, there is the British and Irish Lions, this team is formed every four years, and is made up of English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish players (in Rugby Union, both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are represented by a single team).
The British and Irish Lions tour every four years in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The last tour was in South Africa last year.
But in the Rugby Union World Cup, and Six Nations, each nation is represented by it's own team.|||It will never happen, the Scots, NI, Welsh and English will never join forces when it comes to football. We are all independant nations and want to keep our national identities.|||no, and wont happen there is more chance of Northen Ireland joining Rep of Ireland

Americans why don't you join conmebol?. conmebol = south american's football association.?
I think you have a great team, however your team will not progress significantly if you continue in concacaf, concacaf is the weakest confederation in the world... So, why don't you join CONMEBOL? look, Australia doesn't play anymore in Oceania, they now play in Asia's football confederation.. Probably if you joined the CONMEBOL you wouldn't qualify to several world cups, however, your football level would progress significantly, conmebol is a very strong confederation, here we have great national teams, fantastic players, look, Messi is south american, we also have great tournaments such as copa libertadores or copa America, and my favorite south american tournament is indeed "south american qualifiers" south american qualifiers are very competitive, you really suffer a lot in south american qualifiers and in the end only very good teams qualify, but the teams that fail to qualify are still good... so what are your thoughts?|||Thanks for the compliments but the U.S. needs to stay out of Conmebol for the time being because the U.S. is trying to grow interest in the sport on an adult level. Soccer/Futbol is already the number 1 sport by far in North America. Soccer has to draw hope and expectation among the American people, they'll write Soccer off if they don't see some results.
Consider Concacaf to be America's "training wheels" before significant interest is generated through world cup wins. Soccer is the Number 5 sport in the U.S. and is generally considered a kids game or for the guys too small/weak to play Football, Basketball, Hockey or even baseball. Very soon Soccer will overtake Hockey as the number 4 sport and it will eventually overtake basketball. As demographics of a large hispanic population and declining interest among Whites and Hispanics in basketball favors soccer/futbol.
If the U.S. goes far in the next 2 world cups, expect the U.S. to switch to Conmebol sooner rather than later. Maybe 10 years from now.|||CONMEBOL would be the biggest idiots if they added U.S..........it doesn't make sense geographically and it will do the same thing that happend when Australia joined the AFC...........it took a team from elsewhere and be added to another...........therefore messing up the confederations...........also, USA will get killed if they joined the CONMEBOL...........they at least havea chance in the Concacaff|||Honestly, I think that's BS. People who slam CONCACAF have no clue what they are talking about. CONMEBOL has like 10 member nations. They get 4-5 spots. BS. If USA moved that would further dilute the World Cup field in my opinion unless you combine both CONCACAF and CONMEBOL. Which I really woudn't mind that at all.|||Because the CONCACAF is ran by the USA. So that will not happen, they will not think of that.
What the USA does do is enter the Copa America as invitee. Along with Mexico.|||Why not have England join CONMEBOL? Or what about Spain? Germany? France? South Korea? Ghana?|||we like to be the big dogs in concacaf|||Americans don't have a choice in this. It's decided by FIFA, not the American population. Anyway, I don't understand how you think that being in a more competitive confederation would make a nation stronger? That makes no sense. It's better that the team be in a less competitive confederation. Either way it would not happen because the United States is not in South America.
Anyway, I don't think you realize that the American team already plays in a league, called the Major League Soccer or MLS. 16 cities compete against each other every year in America. Landon Donovan for instance plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The last thing is that most Americans, believe it or not, are not that interested in soccer to begin with. More females play soccer than males in middle and high school. Actually, the US Woman's Soccer team is probably the best in the world. A lot of American girls take soccer when they are young, while most boy play baseball, basketball or football. Most Americans aren't even watching the World Cup, believe it or not. Americans have been watching E3 video game conference and the NBA Championship.
Almost all Americans however, know about the vuvuzelas. That's famous.

Why do American call football as soccer?
For many years soccer was football and still it is except in America. FIFA is International Fedaration of Football Association, which managing football and specially world cup every for years. I thing in soccer we use our foot to kick the ball but in American football we just use our hand for move the ball so soccer is most likely to be football than American football !!!!!
In general American people are sometimes weird for this kind of usage of the words!!!|||I'm American, and I agree that it should be returned to its original name. My guess is that a while back we called it soccer to tick off Mother England.|||Dr. Manhatten's answer is correct - the term soccer actually did originate in England and was brought to the US from there. It's actually an English term for the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|||The term came from England, but most are too stuck up to admit it and just bash us Americans for using it.
|||and the US is not the only country that uses "soccer" to differentiate it from some other game called football. Australia, Ireland and Canada also have sports called football (though Canadian football is nearly the same as US football).
|||Dr. Manhattan has the right answer. Also, it isn't too hard to Google it and read the history, especially since Yahoo Answers is full of trolls.
|||It dates all the way back to 1863, when the Football Association was first founded. It became known as Association Football, to differentiate it from Rugby Football, prevalent at the time. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th letters of association were taken and it was called SOCcer for short. So technically, soccer is a slightly more correct term that football is. Go figure.|||Who cares. Nobody gives two sh!ts what America calls it, they are not important.
The world knows it's called football and that's all that matters. It's FIFA not FISA.|||Who cares their **** a football anyway and always will be.|||God knows because what they call football you use your hands but they call a game where you use your feet soccer? wtf

What do you use to play Soccer(Football) in your Home?
.
I use balled-up socks.
They are great for dribbling and low-drives, but terrible on bending free kicks.
Remember -- It is okay if you break a Lamp...
...it's all in the name of Association Football ;)
.|||LOL. I use about anything. It's ironic I haven't played proper football for years...But i love playing indoors, with like you said socks, bottles, anything really...and I usually break something when i play.|||I'm pretty sure you'll only find soccer balls in Wisconsin.|||A tennis ball. I've had a few injuries from playing indoors, it's alright if you've got the space for it though.

I sent a business idea to the Football Association two months ago. I've called & left messages 8 times to
see whats happening with it. (I know they received the idea). This is so I can approach others if they are not interested. Although they have never replied to my messages/calls. The reason this is getting to me now as I was decent enough to send it to them so why don't they at least reply to my request. What should I do????????|||If you didn't register your idea (formally) with a patent or at the design office, then you can say goodbye to the rights!
The FA wouldn't want another organisation to use your idea, so they won't tell you they don't want it.
You need to take good advice before sharing stuff like this.
Besides, the FA couldn't run a bath anyway...|||Find a new investment idea.|||Why on Earth would you send an unsolicited business idea to anybody? Why not try to present it in person and sell it to them face to face? Face it, they either trashed your idea or stole it.|||That kind of info is sent everyday to business and manufacturers, if you think it worth it market it yourself, good luck|||should've copyrited it, they've probably taken the idea and used it as their own.|||They're probably not interested. Do you know how many people send in 'business ideas' to the FA every day? Hundreds. And, let's be honest, most of them are going to be rubbish, aren't they?
It takes a while to sort the correspondence. If your idea genuinely has any merit, and if it was properly supported by convincing evidence of the economic, marketing and consumer research you've undoubtedly revealed in developing your idea for them, they will contact you for a meeting when they think the time is right.
Why not send them another letter summarising the idea you sent them? Ringing them won't get you a response -- they're busy people and have lots of 'gatekeepers' in place to prevent speculators from bothering them before they're ready to respond.

FIFA stands for Federation International Football Association (not fisa, i.e. soccer)?
So why do Americans insist it's called soccer when the international governing body even call it football. Change it, and change your sport to rugby or handball, because form what i can tell the ball is rarely ever kicked in the sport anyways|||Germany is really Deutschland, why do we all go about calling it Germany, Munich is really Munchen why are we changing the names of things? How dare we change the name of things, its not like anything else in the world has two names for the same thing my goodness no things should have only one name for something yes let us and make sure that things only have one name.|||Soccer is an older word that was exported from Britain and is derived from the title of Association Football.
Americans already have their own bizarre thing which they call Football, which by rights should more properly be called Handegg.
Worryingly, I've also noticed that they don't seem to know the difference between boots and cleats either. Obviously cleats are the pointy things at the bottom of a pair of boots, and for about the past 15 or so years have all been moulded as part of the underside of the boots.
Clearly asking the question about "what sort of cleats they should buy" is equally as stupid.
Then again, it could just be the fact that Americans at least represented by the people asking questions here, are actually just more stupid in general.|||Then why do Sky Sports, a British company, call their Saturday show... Gillette SOCCER Saturday??
I'm English but don't get your point. Who cares??

Who has won the uefa, home and fa cups in the same season in europeean football?
uefa includes the supercup, the home would be the premier league or whatever the domestic league of the country is called and the fa is the football association of that country.|||First, the simple (and most commonly known) answer: Manchester United in 1999. They won the English Premiership, the English FA Cup, and the European Champions League Final ("that" game against Bayern Munich).
Your definition of the "European Treble", though, seems to encompass more than just the European Cup. We'd have to add the UEFA Cup, the Supercup, perhaps the now-defunct Cup Winners' Cup (absorbed into the UEFA Cup). And maybe, just for amusement, the Inter-Toto Cup. That's a pretty tall order...
There is also the problem of distinguishing between the two domestic cup competitions, e.g. FA and League cups in England. Different levels of prestige, sometimes similar levels of competitiveness.
For now, listed below are the more conventional winners of the treble (domestic league, domestic cup, and either european cup or uefa cup), based on publicly available info:

Is the Football Association an oppressive, intolerant organisation?
They don't allow managers or players to talk openly. If one negative word is said about the referee, linesmen or any of the officials by them then the FA take action. There is no freedom of expression given to the managers or players at all. Then there is this which I think is ridiculous:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football鈥?/a>
Now I am not saying Drogba should have punched Vidic but I do think it is pathetic the FA are looking to take action just because he said (said, not actually done but said) he wished he had.
Must be nice to be the FA - if you are running low on cash or need to keep your bank account flowing with cash, just fine anyone for anything - which they seem to do all the time. Fine, fine, fine. $$$$
What do others think?|||I think it's really pathetic of the FA to be quite honest. Managers and players get fined for the simplest of comments, it stops people being able to speak freely. Another factor that the FA need to consider is that most of these comments are said rashly and in the heat of the moment, directly after a match in which a bad decision was given against them that cost them the match. There's no point of interviews after a match if players and managers can't say what they feel.|||Your job has rules of confidentiality and certain rules. These players are paid professionals. If they don't like the rules or job, go to the CFL or find a new profession.|||Personally I feel players shouldnt be releasing books while they are still playing! Rooney had a book when he was 20 come on!
It would solve this problem really. And punishing someone for saying they want to do something really is silly, but I guess they want to prevent people from doing it cause of the example it sets to young readers.

Can a football club sell his live match broadcast individually?
If the local football(soccer) association own the league according to article 74,75 from FIFA then how can a club sell his matches?|||The ability of any individual club broadcasting its own matches comes down to the broadcasting agreements (or lack of) in place at the time.
A club may negotiate with the broadcast rights holder to do so or the association may have allowed clubs to do so under its agreement with the broadcaster.
Chelsea have Chelsea TV, which shows its own replay of each premier league match a few days after it is played live, that is something they have negotiated with the broadcast rights holders.

The england football association is known as?
The Football Association. It is commonly known by its acronym, i.e., The FA.|||The FA governs all professional football clubs in England. It is a member of UEFA and FIFA, and holds a permanent seat on the International Football Association Board (IFAB). Unlike other national football associations, it does not take the national name (ie. English) in its title (compared to the Scottish Football Association, for example).
All of England's professional football clubs must be members of the Football Association. The FA is responsible for the appointment of the management of the England men's and women's national teams and the organization of the FA Cup (the nation's most prestigious cup competition). Although it does not run the day-to-day operations of the country's top league, the Premier League, it has veto power over the appointment of the league Chairman and Chief Executive and over any changes to league rules.[1] The Football League, England's second tier league, consisting of The Championship, League One and League Two, is self-governing.|||The FA (football association).... What is more popular worldwide, Star Wars or Football?
By football I mean Association Football (sometimes known as 'soccer'), not 'Grid-iron' which is only particularly popular in the US.|||Definitely Football. In the U.S. though I would say Star Wars by a slim margin. If you look at impoverished countries, you always see images of kids playing football in the streets and such. It's all they can really do for entertainment often times, as they don't have money, and we know the majority of the world is poor. They don't have the privileges of movies and such a lot of the time, and as a result wouldn't have a lot of exposure to the films.|||Star wars (i think)|||Worldwide? Soccer / football.

High school Soccer? association football?
for the love of God my team just does not care yes we are freshman but they have no heart playing outside D with a 3-4-3 its hard to effect the mind set of the team season is almost over but how could i help get my team to state when im a junior/senior? any info could be use full|||3-4-3 is a very poor formation, basically allowing your defence to get overrun nearly every attack. The standard formation is 4-4-2 however that's becoming slightly outdated. I'd recommend 4-5-1 where the central midfield is organised into 2 defensive midfielders and one attacking midfielder, this is currently the option used by most football teams in the big games eg man utd, barcelona, inter milan and real madrid. By having 2 defensive midfielders where one of them sits just in front of the defence protecting them and trying to breaking up play and another who can be considered a deep-lying play maker who the basically links up play and passing dictating the tempo of the game, and an attacking midfielder who can provide support to the attack and provide the final touch needed to create an opportunity you ensure that you dominate the midfield- where the game is essentially won and lost. However, having 2 defensive midfielders does not mean that you have 6 defenders as they both MUST sit in between the defence and midfield, this does not mean they neglect there attacking duties and one of the 2 may go up at any given time (but not too far up the pitch) to support the attack preferably the deep-lying play maker, also both must be more disciplined in there positioning than the attacking midfielder who's given a license to roam and float around the midfield providing support and confusing the opposition.
Caution-your midfield needs to be tactically aware of the game to understand their duties properly as they're specific, also you're striker needs to have pace and power as he'll have no strike partner to compliment him.
On the note of tactics it is a must that you keep possession of the ball preferably in the middle of the pitch, this is where a 5 man midfield comes in handy. Also make your passes simple concise but accurate and utilise your wingers effectively, this will stretch the team greatly creating gaps for your attacking mid and attacker to exploit. Make sure the players are all well generally disciplined in their positions and defend and hassle your opponents all over the pitch as to make it harder for the opposition to get close to your goal- dint give them space. You yourselves should work together as to create space for your teammates to pass into when they've got the ball. Finally, defence is priority as when your not conceding your not losing, this doesn't mean go ultra defensive but make sure you don't get sloppy losing the ball in defence etc.
Good luck lol i know its a lot to take into. If you want a a perfect example try to watch Barcelona play, they execute it perfectly.|||3-4-3 is asking for trouble. Try 4 in defense and 4 or 5 in the midfield. 4-4-2 is always a simple but effective formula. You will have those important extra bodies back when your opponents have the ball.
Remember; when YOU are in possession, start from your position and look for space to receive a pass. When THE OPPOSITION are in possession, start from your position and get close to their players to make a tackle.
But if there's no heart, you're doomed.

Do you think Juventus will be punished by football association of italia because of their case?
I support Juve for 12 years. But if they are found guillty they can be demoted %26amp; worse they can be stripped of the last 2 scudettos. The UEFA is keeping a close eye on this, so italian fa wont take a chance. But Bianconeri will rise up. Milan went down %26amp; bankrupt in 80. Still later they won 3 european titles. Juve can do that too.|||By the last news:
1.Juventus will go in Serie B for a season and it will loose the scudettos and Trezeguet,Buffon and Ibrahimovic.Lazio in Serie B.
2.Milan will start next scudettos 35 pts lower. So no scudettos. Also Fiorentina will.
3.Inter by the cheats of Champions League will start 15 pts lower. Also Chievo Verona and Sampdoria.
4.The scudetos of this season wined by Juventus will be given to Rome.|||no i don't.|||O yes. It says so in the soccer law. A law is a law and can't be countered.|||I don't think the team itself will be punished, although I know my father disagrees, he thinks that they could end up in Serie C, but I doubt it. But I do think that the administrators and anyone else that was involved will pay a high price, also to set an example to anyone else that thinks they can get away with it. I think Juventus is too big of a product for the Federazione Italiana Gioco Calcio (F.I.G.C.)to lose, they Federazione does have a new director and he may not want to seem soft on these issues, he may want to come in and show everyone who is running the show, if you know what I mean. Lets keep our fingers crossed, and hope for the best. I think the Moggi family will end up paying a very high price for their involvement.|||No they're too good of a team.|||they will probably get a fine but i cant see them being deducted points or being relegated like a few italian clubs have been in the past, they are one of the biggest teams in the world and one of the main reasons people watch italian football. Also juve and ac milan are realistically italys only chance of winning the champions league so the italian fa will definately not punish them to severly, infact the individual players and other staff are more likely to be punished rather than the club.|||YES,HO YES, DAM YES,BETTER BE YES,PLEASE YES.|||Of course they must be punished because of their lawless work.maybe well see them in seriB next season|||If Luciano Moggi is punished. Juventus also will Punished, but I don't hope Juventus Punished because I am a Juventini.

Rumor has it that Australian Football is available in the USA with Setanta sports channel?
Can anybody verify this? I am a charter member of the Australian Football Association of North America and this is what I am told. I have talked to Direct TV vendors, nobody has ever heard of this channel. Does it exist, what does it cost? How do you get it? Why do English people think 'soccer' is the "wrong" word for football in England?
Despite English people (including myself originally) constantly saying "it's not football, it's soccer!", calling it soccer is legitimate too.
Football didn't really have much in the way of rules originally - association football changed that, and association football was abbreviated to 'soccer'.|||I guess you're American. Maybe because that's just the name we call it and like we have names for different things e.g. purse - handbag, cellphone - mobile and we see what we call it as the correct name for it.|||You guess wrong. I'm English, as is obvious from the beginning of my question :-p And you SO voted yourself as best answer!

Offside is a law in association football which effectively limits how far forward attacking players may be....?
when involved in play. Broadly, a player cannot gain an advantage by waiting for the ball near the opposing goal when there are fewer than two opponents between him and the goal.

What is good workout plan for football?
Hi, I'm planning on joining a minor football association in my community, and I want to be either wide receiver, free safety, or, strong safety. I'm medium height, fairly big build, I can jump pretty high, I have large shoulders, and I can run pretty fast, but I need to drop some weight, and build some muscle. push ups, pullups, dips, sprints, airsquats, plank鈥?things of this nature. You will gain strength, lose weight, and increase speed. But you will lose muscle mass. but this is what you want if your playing db/reciever.

Why do men get to play baseball and football and not women?
men play baseball and foot ball but women cant play football and they make women play soft ball why? do they think that women are incappable of playing just as good as men i mean have you seen "A League of Their Own"?
