Why is football called soccer?

i checked that it was Charles Wreford Brown invented the term "soccer" but anyone here knows why he did that?

i hate it when americans value "american football" more than "association football" and call it "soccer" while other countries call it "football"

here's a commercial on this by the way, just thought it's interesting

http://youtube.com/watch?v=glzXL63pGkI%26amp;s鈥?/a>|||It is the abbreviated term for 'asSOCiation football'... he just made it faster to say... funny that the English only say football now.. I prefer Football though.. makes more sense.|||i don't know|||This is what bothers you? I envy your simplicity.|||no the soccer is the european futball only|||soccer = kicking ball

foot kicks ball

plus in spanish, it is called FutBall|||It make something our own, in a way. This way it makes us different.

Stupid, but whatever.|||Probablly because foot ball was already taken be a sport that had nothing to do with feet.|||We like to come up with different things here in America. We have our own system of measurement too.|||Iit comes from the English slang term for association soccer, "assoc," which evolved into "soccer."|||I don't know, but in Mexico, they call it Futbol. I was so freakin happy when Italy won yesterday. WHOO!!!!!|||it is an abbreviation of association.
