When were corner flags first introduced to the football association field?

Corner Flag`s were on the Football Field, when the very first set of formal rules were introduced. First mentioned in 1848, but the year on the set of rules is 1862. so they have been around for a long time.|||I thought it was about 1918 but could be wrong.
