The Football Association of Ireland have lodged a formal complaint with FIFA over the controversial world cup play-off defeat to France and urged the governing body to replay the match.|||Definitely not; Uzbekistan-Bahrein in 2005 was repeated because of a technical error (a player got into the box before a penalty was shot, the ref noticed and instead of repeating the penalty, a free kick was called; which is a technical mistake). Football (soccer) matches are replayed only when there are determinant technical errors (calling a free kick instead of a penalty repetition is a determinant technical error), but not when there are appreciation errors (the ref could say he didn't consider the handball to be a handball, even if it sounds stupid; but I think FIFA is right about it, because if they didn't do it this way, every single game would have to be replayed and refs wouldn't have any authority any more.|||NO CHANCE whatsoever.
And probably rightly so - we can't replay matches. It would be a can of worms worse than Pandora's Box.
What we SHOULD do, of course, is insist VT-recordings and other technologies are introduced asap - despite the Blatter and Platini objections.
The obdurate Blatter, never far away from shady dealings, fixes and the smell of corruption should be ousted - whatever it takes.
With New Zealand in the last 32 - Russia omitted - and France through on foul play - I reckon Blatter's days are numbered. The 2010 WC is shaping up to be a farce - but in the ill-chosen location of S.Africa I think it will be a tragedy.|||Nah mate... I sympathise with Irish fans, I went through the same thing after the Barcelona game.... this is wat u get from a corrupt French guy..... he should go back to eating frogs legs (no offence french people, that was directed at him, not you or your culture)|||Highly unlikely , such a replay has happened in the past,(Uzbek and Kuwait if memory serves) but not in a game this high profile...Sepp Blatter would take a massive hit if he allowed a replay and there would be hell to pay if the Irish went ahead and actually won such a game|||I highly doubt it , if they do they will never hear the end of it as there are so many bad calls that go on all the time.
