Are there any limitations on joining national Football teams?

I was thinking that if I could become a professional Association Football player, I wanted to play for the English national team (because I'm mostly English). I'm American, though. Would I still be able to be a member of the English national team?|||You have to be a citizen of the country that you want to play for.|||Maybe I can be a player for England, if I have the money to own a house in England and the USA.
