What's the difference between 'soccer' and 'football?

Other than the name, what's the difference between soccer and Association Football?|||What's in a name as long as you understand what it stands for?





However, for me, 'soccer' fans don't need to be escorted to and from stadiums, don't need to be herded like cattle and segregated from fans of the opposing team, don't need to be under constant surveillance by the authorities and police and can freely take their children and friends to games with little fear of being attacked or verbally abused by a bunch of hooligans and morons.





'Association football' fans on the other hand..........|||Nothing.


They are both the same sport, just different names for it depending on where you live.


If you said football and soccer to someone in England, they would know that it is the same sport you are talking about. If you said football to someone in America or I think Australia, then they would think of what English people call rugby (it's a little bit different though). If you said to someone in America/Australia soccer, they would know you were talking about Association Football.


It's a bit confusing lol|||The question has already been answered by other people. There is no such thing as soccer. There's only football. As far as I know there is also American football, Canadian football, Aussie football and so on, but they have nothing to do with the real football.





No clue why some people call it soccer.|||Soccer and Association Football are the exact same thing, they're just different names. Where I live, we just call the sport soccer. If we hear the word football, we assume you're talking about American football, which is completely different.|||There is no such thing as "soccer".

The civilized world knows the sport as FOOTBALL not soccer.|||soccer is played by crappy teams like Toronto FC and Los Angelels Galaxy.
