Other than the name is there really any difference between soccer and Association Football?|||As far as the game itself is concerned, there is no difference, both come under the auspices of FIFA the governing body of the sport. The rules are the same other than minor changes allowable by individual leagues approved by FIFA.
However, where fans of the sport are concerned there are several major differences. In England and other parts of the 'footballing' world for example, fans are treated like and herded like cattle to and from games and are under constant CCTV surveillance due to the ever present danger of hooliganism and violence. Thanks to the massive efforts of the authorities and education, the rampant mob tactics of two or three decades ago are few and far between nowadays but only because of constant monitoring and control.
Soccer fans on the other hand can freely take their families and children to games with little fear of being attacked or verbally abused simply for daring to support or wear the colours of, opposing teams.
'Quite a 'difference' there wouldn't you say?|||football is the real name till they changed it in USA after the NFL was named that, but its still called football in other countries!|||not in the UK
