Why do Americans consider Association Football to be a kids/girls Sport?

Why do Americans consider Association Football to be a kids/girls Sport?

Lots of answerers from America refer to our beloved Association Football (I'm not going to call it soccer) and consider it soft when we play it wearing only shinpads for protection. What is soft is passing of girls sports as rough tough american games they play tag rugby as played by primary school (grade school) Kids but wear tons of armour and call it Football!!!!; they play a game called Baseball, again wearing armour which is just rounders again played by schoolgirls in primary schools, and Netball the main girls sport in schools but played by freakishly tall boys (because then they don't need to use skill to get a basket they just drop it in the net.). and then you have Hockey! I rest my case

Report It|||It is mostly America guys that think that way because guys like sports and some women. I don't think it's a girly sport.|||Come on over, put on some pads and a helmet and I will show you what this game is all about.|||why the hell should we not protect ourselves as much as possible? we are of a different culture and make up to you guys..I dont want to play say rugby where you actually have to run constantly and be tackled by neanderthals while being exposed unprotected..we dont like soccer at top level because we like to be the best and call our national sports world championships and well er! we are sh.it..|||i don't know about americans but in australia ppl just hate the diving. football is my game but seeing our beloved socceroos dived out of the world cup by grosso http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CQf4zYJ2fY

was agonising. try that on a rugby field and you would get trampled and the ref would laugh at you.|||Well our American cousins only like to play sports that they are the best at. They are brainwashed into believing that they are the best. I think it really gets under their skin that our football is a true world sport and their sports are just second rate when it comes to world domination. Most Americans that I've met are not bad people they just don't know much about the world outside their borders. Most really think it's called soccer not football. I think a lot of it has to do with the American media.|||Football is growing in the US Ewood....those kids you mention for example will grow into manhood one day with an experience of having played and enjoyed football that their parets and grandparents never had.

The US has been too insular too long but it's opening up to the rest of the world now.

By the way.....they've got all these dodgy sports, but it could be a lot worse........they don't have cricket.|||because it is a game for mentallly and physically fit people and mentally fit people are the ones in schools i.e. kids and the physically fit ones are the non-obese americans i.e. nobody, so women take it up too.

ur right about how wimpy they are as well, the armour for american football is stupid, one of the lecturers at my college plays rugby without even a gum-gaurd and she's a girl!!

in the case of what they call hockey, which is actually ice hockey, you do need the armour because many "hockey" coaches can be quoted as saying that the puck is a secondary priority, the first being to cause as many broken bones as possible.

P.S. soccer is actually an english word used to discern beween association football and rugby football, bin around since the 1800's then went out of fashion until the americans started using it, so u should not worry about sayin it.

PPS. steely is such a wimp, he wouldn't last ten seconds on the football feild.

why do he feel he need protection? they obviously don't take sport seriously over there, it's more important to them how good they look when they are ordering a mcmeal to clog up their arteries and give them a heart attack at the age of 36 through bein obese.|||Well, not all American's think "soccer" is for kids. I happen to love the game as well as American football. I played both and appreciate them more than all other sports except for ice hockey. And I am sure that not all European's, Asian's, or African's look down on the NFL.

In fact, I'm willing to bet that there are more people in the world that give respect to the game that they don't like than there are that go out of their way to put one or the other down.

Believe me, even amongst my fellow gridiron fans, there are sub-divisions of attitude about our game. Many of the loud and obnoxious fans are usually there to get drunk and act like idiots. Whereas others - myself included - are pragmatic and analytical. And we just want to watch the best players perform.

Here in the states and Canada too, there is the question as to whether football or hockey is tougher. I feel its hockey, but there are aspects of football that are tougher than hockey.

All I'm trying to say is don't get caught up in the pointless debates or the putdowns, that's for the bandwagon fans or the entertainment junkies.

Like I've told my friends, if I were a famous athlete, my favorite fans would be the one's that I never see or meet. I'd interpret their absence as respect for my space and I think very highly of that. Since I'm not, then I extend that attitude toward people who don't contribute to the spirit of sportsmanship. I don't need them, and especially, don't need to hear them.|||because their a bunch of wankers|||I always figured it was because Women's football was much more prominent over there (before the WUSA thing collapsed).|||FCUK Manchester united you stale teabag
