Why do Americans consider Association Football to be a kids/girls Sport?

Lots of answerers from America refer to our beloved Association Football (I'm not going to call it soccer) and consider it soft when we play it wearing only shinpads for protection. What is soft is passing of girls sports as rough tough american games they play tag rugby as played by primary school (grade school) Kids but wear tons of armour and call it Football!!!!; they play a game called Baseball, again wearing armour which is just rounders again played by schoolgirls in primary schools, and Netball the main girls sport in schools but played by freakishly tall boys (because then they don't need to use skill to get a basket they just drop it in the net.). and then you have Hockey! I rest my case

Report It|||Well said my friend- but it gets worse than that - 'soccer moms' lol

Many very insightful points but try telling that to the Yanks|||bacause you tend to see MLS players crying after games. I know i couldnt play soccer if I tried. But maybe they call it a kids sport bacuase Freddy Adu (sp) was 15 in his debut. (probably wrong there. not an expert.) But there is no need to dis football or baseball or hockey.

If a rugby player put on pads and went up againts a NFL linebacker he'd get creamed, If a NFL linebacker went up padless againts a rugby player, they rugby player would probably take him out.

If a cricket player tried to hit a 90 mph fastball that doesnt bounce with a baseball bat, it would probably take him dozens of tries, same if a baseball player tried to hit a how ever fast cricket players through a boucning hard ball to a flat paddle person. (BTW they were less gear in baseball.)

IDK what netball is. but everyone is good at their sport and theyre all different|||First of all, what is this question doing in the baseball section?

Second, what makes you think Americans consider SOCCER to be a "kids/girls sport". I certainly don't. I've seen lots of people beat up from playing soccer. Do you think Americans sit around and critize soccer for being soft? I assure you, we have better things to do.

Third, you think FOOTBALL is soft? Football players are freakishly strong and fast. Even with "armour", there are numerous injuries. Soccer can be a physical sport, but football is all about hard contact, on EVERY play, pads are a must.

Fourth, there is "armour" in baseball?? You mean the helmet that players wear? That's the only "armour" I can think of. Would YOU like to stand in the batters box, with a 95 MPH fastball coming at you? It's not like cricket, with a small ball at your knees.

Fifth, by "netball" do you mean basketball? You think being tall makes one a great basketball player? A lot of tall guys don't even make the team. It takes a lot of coordination, strength, and even speed to make one a great basketball player.

You Eurotrash should concentrate on your own sports and less on the Anti-American crap. Don't forget, we dragged your rear ends out of two World Wars, at a great cost to us.|||I don't even know where to start...First off Americans don't consider baseball or basketball to be contact sports, even thought there is a fair amount in both. I'm not a big football fan, but if you have a 6ft.5in 340 lb lineman barreling down on you with no protection you will literally die. You have obviously never played hockey, so I won't dignify that last comment with a response. Have fun prancing around on the SOCCER field.|||Indeed. The only conclusion I can draw is that the American colonists are crap at proper sports, so they had to invent their own.

Even their motorsport is just driving round in circles.|||At a boy Jeff its high time someone emptied the Eurotrash. Just Kidding. To answer you question we as Americans can do as we damn well please. So put on you wooden shoes and go play some Badmiton or Curling.|||Because in America it's mostly played by kids and girls. And if you really think baseball is just a girly game, let someone hit you in the head with a fastball from 60 feet away - and you don't get to wear a helmet since you seem to despise the "armour". If you ever wake up, then we can discuss the merits of baseball being more than just a game for schoolgirls.|||because of all the faking and the losers who cry over nothing. (Canadians hate it to)|||Hockey? a girlie sport? I just broke my ribs last week from playing hockey, no joke. Also, I do not consider in your words, football, a childs sport at all. I love my New York Red Bulls....

edit: in rounders do they thro 100 mile per hour fastballs hitting them back 400 feet at 300 miles per hour?|||American Football: Players are freakishly huge and not wearing pads would be a death sentence (Infact it was, prior to the 60's no pads were used and the amount of deaths it caused almost outlawed the game)

Baseball: I doubt this "rounders" is played with a ball going 90 MPH. Getting hit in the head with that without a helmet will most certainly cause instant death if not severe brain damage.

Basketball: American invented sport you took and called it "netball"

Hockey: What's wrong with hockey? lol.
